Statistics don't lie. All you are presenting is anecdotal accounts, and even doing that poorly. You want to maintain the police can be incompetent and are often brutal...fine, I can agree with that. But what you are saying is that they are especially so with black people, because they are black. I have cited statistics that show that is not true...and so far you have failed dismally to put up any argument.

Black men in the U.S. make up about 6% of the total population, but are convicted of 53% of the murders. Is that all racism? Statistics for almost every other type of serious crime, aggravated assault, b&E, robbery--they are even worse with black males making up the vast majority of convictions. Is that all racism?

The problem is that too many don't want to know the truth or want to pretend not to know it. Holding onto the victimhood status is easier as it allows the pretending it's all someone else's fault. I know racism does exist, but not to such a degree that it comes even close to explaining these stats. Black people commit more crime and so they come into contact with police more often. Simple as that.

Social media is a mindless machine that duplicates the virus of the moment. I've already explained that systemic racism is bullshit.

Well here is something to help open your mind and think more critically

I do have an open mind...my stance was to just give the cop a proper investigation but many on here wanted his head immediately. In case it's not clear, the former is being open minded and the latter is being closed minded.

I also said the guy would be alive if he didn't break the law, resist arrest or threaten the cops.

That's it, these were my points. If guys on here want to disagree with the above and turn this into a racial debate, that's their prerogative.

you opened and fair argument as I said the beauty of this case is it proves there really isn't a definition of what excessive force is.

I agree I am not villainizing the cop he deserves a fair trial and the guy did resist arrest but there are many variables with that which makes things complicated.

Let's pretend the question, "why wasn't he arrested" was asked in good faith.

The answer is simple, but you guys won't accept it. It is because there are 50 to 60 million police interactions with the public and 10 million arrests per year in the U.S. For most of those 10 million arrests, police have to use no or minimal force. Obviously there are other factors at play, and one of those factors could indeed be racism, but if you try to chalk up the difference in outcomes by race to racism, it does not make sense. If you truly want to get to the root of why black people are having bad interactions with the cops at a disproportionately higher rate, then you have to inform yourself and be honest.

You guys seem to base your understanding on twitter videos, as if they accurately reflect what's happening in the world. No one posts boring arrest videos. No one even posts videos of police roughing up white people, because they don't fit the current narrative. But find a cop asking a black person to pick up litter...suddenly that's twitter worthy. If you want proof of this, it exists within this very thread. I posted a video of a white guy dying in almost the exact same circumstances as George Floyd--it did not elicit a single comment.

Briefly caught some glimpses of a news conference today...it appears they will charge the police officer after all. Some additional facts came to light such as the cop standing on the body afterwards, not seeking medical attention right away, etc.

They've charged the officer with 11 counts including murder, aggravated assault & assault with a deadly weapon. The other officer was charged with aggravated assault as well.

Well there you have it charges have just been laid.

It's illegal for a cop to shoot someone with a taser or gun while a person is running away if the person doesn't pose a threat to the officer.

also one of the officers stood on top of the body after they killed him. the other kicked the dead body multiple times. This falls into what a friend of mine who is a cop said which is those Cops were pissed the guy out muscled them and took their anger out on him.

and...One of the police officers is going to testify against other one which is a rare thing

They must have seen something in the body cam footage to charge the other cop with aggravated assault. This is a really tough one because he was shot in the back fleeing but he turned around and fired the taser at the cop. As a cop you only have a split second to think, people don't have an appreciation for that.

I think if the cops showed remorse after the shooting (like NOT standing on the guy's body and seeking medical attention right away), then it would have helped. Maybe they would have still been prosecuted but with lighter charges...

Anyways, they still might not get convicted...definitely not easy being a cop when you have virtually no time to make certain decisions.

It's a bad deal for all involved...there's no winners here.

Systemic racism is not bullshit as you say, systemic racism exists (if you stop hiding behind your privilege you will see it), this killing occurred due to racism, sy barite you can blame social media, you can blame journalist, you can throw stats that shows Blacks commit more crimes than any other race, what you are failing to understand is what is causing the stats. Now the officer has been charged with murder, do you agree he should be charged with murder, he shot a man running away from him, the officer already searched him and new he did not have a gun.

That's what I will charitably call your "argument" amounts to. You got pissed off, just because I asked you for proof backed up by evidence.

I'll tell you what, I will admit I was wrong to say systemic racism is bullshit. I forgot about one very obvious proof that there most certainly is systemic racism, and that it's deeply entrenched in every organization and institution of our society. Every ad that "encourages" people of a particular race, gender or sexual orientation to apply for "diversity", is in fact blatantly prejudiced...and yes it's systemic. Every school admissions department that gives black kids "life experience" points to get them to qualify for entry to a school, while asian kids with higher marks are denied....yup, systemic racism.

The morning after an unusual number of police officers called out sick, only two sergeants and one officer showed up in one of Atlanta's six police zones, according to police officers who don't want to be named.

There also appears to be a contradiction between Atlanta law and the Police training manual, which states that if someone takes an officer's baton or taser and the officer believes there to be a threat, he/she can use deadly force.

And it's appearing more and more likely that the tabloids were right about the victim's incarcerations.
