I'm a patient guy, so I'll see if I can get through to you.

Statistics don't lie. All you are presenting is anecdotal accounts, and even doing that poorly. You want to maintain the police can be incompetent and are often brutal...fine, I can agree with that. But what you are saying is that they are especially so with black people, because they are black. I have cited statistics that show that is not true...and so far you have failed dismally to put up any argument.

Black men in the U.S. make up about 6% of the total population, but are convicted of 53% of the murders. Is that all racism? Statistics for almost every other type of serious crime, aggravated assault, b&E, robbery--they are even worse with black males making up the vast majority of convictions. Is that all racism?

The problem is that too many don't want to know the truth or want to pretend not to know it. Holding onto the victimhood status is easier as it allows the pretending it's all someone else's fault. I know racism does exist, but not to such a degree that it comes even close to explaining these stats. Black people commit more crime and so they come into contact with police more often. Simple as that.

Social media is a mindless machine that duplicates the virus of the moment. I've already explained that systemic racism is bullshit.

A guy who was caught drunk driving and could have easily killed someone..is now the victim here and the evil police should have simply drove him home like an Uber driver.....since that what police do when the catch a criminal, right,? The situation in American is no longer laughable it's scary and quickly on a path to imploding

Systemic racism is not bullshit as you say, systemic racism exists (if you stop hiding behind your privilege you will see it), this killing occurred due to racism, sy barite you can blame social media, you can blame journalist, you can throw stats that shows Blacks commit more crimes than any other race, what you are failing to understand is what is causing the stats. Now the officer has been charged with murder, do you agree he should be charged with murder, he shot a man running away from him, the officer already searched him and new he did not have a gun.

There's no such thing as systemic racism especially here in Canada. Black men need to start taking responsibility for their actions and be accountable for their decisions. This man made a series of really bad decisions on this day....are you even able to identify them? Non of it was race related it was criminal related.

Definitely possible they may not ultimately get convicted. For good or ill juries rarely convict cops.

I hope there is at least 1 jury member who has the tiniest bit of common sense, can put themselves in the shoes of the cop and realize what a fucked up situation he was in (caused 100% by the dead guy), realizes it is not unreasonable that the officer had fear that his life is reasonably threatened by this guy and he was justified in firing his weapon. One can only hope that common sense is not completely dead.

Some experts are saying that even if the cops let him walk home, there's nothing to stop him from walking back (once the cops left) to drive his car again (drunk)...

I agree with you but the cops' actions AFTER the shooting certainly doesn't help their cause...they allegedly stood on him and kicked him and there was absolutely no reason for that.

Interesting but I'm not surprised...like I said from the beginning, we can't swing the pendulum so far the other way that cops can't do their jobs.

My gripe was always about the mayor firing the cop before a proper investigation was done. If the cops turn out to be guilty, so be it but the last few days have already shown this was not a clear cut case so the immediate firing was premature and not appropriate. It basically sends the message to the rest of the Atlanta police force that the mayor is not objective, doesn't have their backs, and will take the action that best fits the political narrative.

I heard this too. Where is it coming from? The DA? I don't trust a word that guy says. He's trying to appease the unruly mob and playing politics. Just 2 weeks ago in a press conference he was saying a taser is a deadly weapon and is considered so under Georgia state law.

The other cops lawyer was interviewed last night. He was tased by the bad guy, fell and banged his head (among other injuries), concussed, and walked over to the guy who was shot and stood on his arm for 6 or 7 sec's in a daze from his concussion, to check to see that he had no more weapons. Seems reasonable. Not sure about the kicking (I think they're alleging the cop who shot the bad guy did that---I would like to see a video or at least hear more about it before passing any judgement). So much will be said (some truth and lots of bullshit) in the lead up to trial to appease the unruly mob.

Yes, I heard it from the DA when the charges were shown on TV. I didn't catch the whole thing and also didn't realize one of the cops was actually tased. I guess the truth will come out soon enough...

Our perspectives couldn't be more different. Changing your mind once you are presented with new or better facts is a good thing. Sticking to a view regardless of the facts is a sign of tribalism and immaturity. I don't want to be wrong about something for a second longer than I have to. If better information is available, I want to know it, and if that means I have to say I was wrong before, I have no problem doing so.

While the 2nd cop's lawyer didn't come out and say it bluntly or get into any specifics, the implication was (my take anyways) he will be a friendly witness to the other cop and not a big supporter of crown, which is understandable based on what both cops went through.

Bystanders, video because apparently there are more videos that did not get posted and the other officer.

As for your other post. The officer was said to have agreed to testify against the other cop which shocked the DA because that was rare. It was publicly said by the DA when he announced the charges. But his Lawyer now stepped in to of course try to smother that because most likely the officer agreed to that with out a lawyer present and it could damage his own case.

Ultimately the DA would not have publicly mentioned what happened after they shot the suspect if there was not a good amount of evidence.

Things are getting ridiculous, pretty soon police officers will be too afraid to uphold the law.

For the folks asking for the officer's head, it's not too hard to avoid these situations in the first place.

1. Don't break the law
2. Don't resist arrest
3. And for heaven's sake, don't threaten a police officer with a weapon

So true. Just this afternoon at work I was talking to a 23 year old (white) girl who hit all the protests and fully backs looters etc. She is 100% immune to facts.

I asked her a hypothetical. If she could wave a wand and completely eliminate all black deaths caused by police (she doesn't care about white deaths) BUT see a 10% rise in homicides in black neighbourhoods, would she be ok with that? She barely hesitated. She told me the problem is police racism. Those "other" deaths are just drama between black folks.

WTF do you do with this kind of mindset? To cap it all off, she went and complained to her boss that I was a racist.
