There was an interesting dialogue about this on CNN tonight. Everyone knows CNN is on the side of the victim but even Chris Coumo had to concede several points, including that everything was cordial up until the point that Rayshard resisted arrest, punched the police and stole their taser. Many of the counter arguments you guys brought up such as letting the guy walk home or that a taser is not considered a deadly weapon were debunked. It also appears the cop was within his rights to shoot and acted consistent with their training. We can debate whether he "should have" but at the very least, it was clear this isn't a black and white case, no pun intended. Oh, and I was surprised that CNN didn't try to put a racial slant on the incident..., at least not yet.

It would be interesting to see the racial breakdown of those complaints. Anyways, the investigation might show he's the "cowboy" type but he still deserved a proper investigation before getting fired.

not sure if this is just poor choice in wording but Cops don't get reprimanded over complaints in many states. There needs to be proof for it to be put on the officers record.

Protests are happening because of social media and bad journalism. I can back that up by pointing out that before the advent of social media there were MORE such incidents happening and no one paid any attention. Now a snippet of video enrages the public and irresponsible journalists rush to backup whatever extremist crackpot opens his mouth first. If you can't find facts to support your theory, consider another theory.

I believe I said I am on the fence on this (at least hopefully I did). Thus I do have an open mind. I have talked about the valid points on both sides of the the argument. What you just said is exactly my point they are just stating their opinion on CNN. They are pundits just stating their opinions for entertainment. Just like Fox News. most of them aren't even actual journalists. That's how both CNN and FOX news avoid lawsuits pertaining to spreading "fake news" etc etc. "

However with that being said. Yesterday they had law enforcement professionals that provided a good talk about it and even there they were split on this case. That's the "beauty" of this case. it brings up the debate on what defines what is excessive force and what isn't and this proves there really never was a clear cut answer.

I'm a patient guy, so I'll see if I can get through to you.

Statistics don't lie. All you are presenting is anecdotal accounts, and even doing that poorly. You want to maintain the police can be incompetent and are often brutal...fine, I can agree with that. But what you are saying is that they are especially so with black people, because they are black. I have cited statistics that show that is not true...and so far you have failed dismally to put up any argument.

Black men in the U.S. make up about 6% of the total population, but are convicted of 53% of the murders. Is that all racism? Statistics for almost every other type of serious crime, aggravated assault, b&E, robbery--they are even worse with black males making up the vast majority of convictions. Is that all racism?

The problem is that too many don't want to know the truth or want to pretend not to know it. Holding onto the victimhood status is easier as it allows the pretending it's all someone else's fault. I know racism does exist, but not to such a degree that it comes even close to explaining these stats. Black people commit more crime and so they come into contact with police more often. Simple as that.

Social media is a mindless machine that duplicates the virus of the moment. I've already explained that systemic racism is bullshit.

If you read the user comments on any articles related to this case, the vast majority of people are on the side of the police. Yet, there won't be any protests supporting the cops. You want to know why? Because they are afraid to be labelled racists. Look, I totally get that racism is very prevalent but we also can't let the pendulum swing so far the other way either and believe every action has a racist intent behind it.

When I started this thread, it wasn't even meant to get into a racism debate. I was merely saying that you shouldn't break the law or fight with the police (because unfortunate things "could" happen as a result) and that the mayor was a coward for firing the cop without at least a proper investigation. If he is found guilty, so be it but give the guy his due.

And this is also why I don't completely buy the current polls that show Trump heading for a big defeat. I would not be surprised for people to A.) be lying to pollsters again and B.) be quietly resenting the fact that it is impossible to speak honestly about what is happening without being called racist.
