It's too depressing so I try to not even look at my portfolio. Hasn't affected my hobbying much...if anything, I need more cheering up these days.

I do have some cash on the sidelines so just waiting for the true pain to hit and then I'll start buying.

Depends on which industry you work in, service and manufacturing industries have been hit hard with layoffs or fewer jobs

When I am losing $40 or $50 k on down days [ which will not change my lifestyle for at least a while ] why would I worry about spending 1-2 k/month having fun?

I am at least as active and maybe I will rev it up slightly.

If you are worried about your investments in the stock market with the current situation then you should not be investing in the stock market to begin with. Unless you are into day trading or speculative trading then just sit on the investments. I sunk a shit load of money into real estate holdings in 2008 and 2009 when things were at there worst. I have been averaging 13% year over year since then.

As to what to invest, it depends on your age. A middle age man like myself can take a hit should shit goes down. If you are close to retirement, don't invest in risky stuff such as stock.

that’s it. Thank god! I actually stopped buying a few months ago On the advice of my fave! Ha ha. Right around xmas. Took some Berkshire stock out and gave to fave as Xmas bonus. Thought I made another bad investment in her, but so far, returns have been above average. Now. getting ready for my next investment. That’s all I can say about that for now. I don’t want to look like too much of an Idiot to you guys if I completely tank!

Too bad none of my faves warned me LOL. You should reward her big time...I am down magnitudes more than that. Anyways, just got to ride through this and wait for the eventual recovery...I'll continue to nibble away during down days.

My fave doesn’t have a clue about the markets. just fortunate she said what she said when she said it. I took her advice. Since then, everything has crashed. now when it comes back, and it will, we will be sitting pretty. Ride the storm. Just like 2009.

LOL, I told one of my faves now (or pretty soon) is a great time to buy. Problem is she doesn't have any trading accounts and I think setting one up could be difficult for her. She wants to give me cash to buy on her behalf. I told her I will have tax implications once we sell. She told me that we can split any profits 50/50 and I can use my share to help pay for any taxes. I'll have to double-check whether that covers it or not (pretty sure it does)...I mostly do my trading within tax sheltered accounts.

I think better to have her own account. its To easy. to set. The securities exchange will need to check But not an issue. her bank can set her up in2 weeks. get her into some mutual funds maybe best to start with. Of course she paying 10 dollars a trade or sell.

It's not that...it's them not wanting a paper trail of all their cash deposits. I've gone to the bank with MPAs before...and let's just say they aren't depositing money the traditional way. She's pretty trusting though to be willing to give me large sums of money to invest on her behalf. Of course, I would never screw around with someone's hard earned cash...

I am waiting for some more of this Russian/China oil fight to get settled. I am looking to move a shit load of money into mining and oil stocks. The growth will be huge when China starts to get production started back up.
