Space come open to me in my current location and I am jumping on it and expanding for the first week of January.

I will be going from 1 treatment room to 3. I already have one therapist that is will to pay flat rent for one room, and that will greatly help with my cost and I have some many talented therapist that have sent me their resume I am feeling really good that I will have a great team!

I would love to hear some fresh marketing idea's. I don't want to do an A-frame because it cost $25 and I can only have it out for a month and then I can't put it out for 3 months.

I do plan on getting an open flag for the building and letting people now I am open for walk ins and same day appointments

Next week starts my new adventure. I signed the lease yesterday. And I have been shopping on craigslist for antique furniture.

When I opened a clinic with other therapists, I visited all the firms nearby and offered their staff a 10% discount. One HR manager from a big company asked me for 16 copies of our map, offer, and prices, which I then printed off and handed in. She put them on every kitchen, staffroom, etc on each floor. Later on, we stopped the 10% and did monthly specials instead (such as a foot massage for a special price), which also were good at raising awareness and getting people to come in for normal massages. I don´t know if you are in a business or residential area, but if businesses are nearby, I hope this helps.

So I am nearing my first week here in my new digs :grin: One of the biggest challenges I am finding is getting clients to book the other therapist. Everyone that calls an or emails wants to book with me.

I don't want people to feel like I am pushing them away, but I also need the other MT's to help me with my work load.

If they are YOUR clients, of course they will want to book with you!
You can make a policy that new clients (non-referred) will go to the other person (client is not offered the choice).
You can also cut back your scheduled hours and say to the person who wants to book with you..."I don't have anything available on that date...so-and-so has an opening at 11am and at 2pm, would you like to book an appt with her?"

Some places will run special pricing on massages when they book with a particular therapist.

You will need to do some marketing...
If you have a facebook page, and a newsletter start there.
Local newspaper....rather than a paid ad, try sending a news release regarding your expansion and new therapist.

When I first opened, I ran a weekly special.
Now I just do a monthly special...but never a discount on massage...I either do a multi-service package with special pricing, value added service, or I do a themed promotion on a facial.
Talk with the therapist and see if she has any ideas on what she would like to do...if she has any specific training you may want to feature that. For example...
Our 90 minute Hot Stone massage is $110 - I would be willing to give a big discount on something like that - and not just for new clients but for anyone that booked with that therapist.

I agree with s_b. When my husband moved into my practice, it was difficult for quite some time to build his clientele. Because my clients like me. Otherwise they would be seeing someone else, right?

It was discouraging for him at first (and me too, because I thought he was the bees-knees), but it has all worked out in the wash. It actually took a few years for people to get used to the new set-up (although he was seeing his new clients as he brought them in) and be open to taking an appointment with him. People just don't like a lot of change, I think.

I moved into a one room studio ( with a small wiating room and a separate dressing room.. and it is doing well, and am having the same problem, people only want to book with me, but I have noticed when I am firm with my saying that I have no openings, they book with one of the new therapists, my problem is one of them was really in pain and I worried myself sick that the new therapist wouldn't do enough to help her,,, I sure hope I don't become a micromanager!
I love the idea of offering a discount to the businesses surrounding the studio. I have been really shy about introducing myself to the other businesses.. :undecided:
So, JL, do the rooms adjoin each other? I love your idea of finding antiques online..!

I have 4 room. I rent space in an old house that is now office space. I have a room down stairs which is my old room, that I an renting to a full time MT. And the other 3 room are up stairs, which are old bedrooms. The master bedroom is my waiting area, and the other 2 smaller rooms are the treatment room. The treatment room are separated by the bathroom.

I got 4 oak chairs for $40 and a Vermont rock maple dresser for $60 and craigslist. I wanted the old oak teachers desk, but there was no way to get it up the stairs and around the corner. Which is too bad I find people are selling them for less than $100.

I just need to be patient. It has only been a week
