Zona Norte bars closing at 3am

You're right about the midnight closing Sampson. I remember running out of beer at 11:50 PM on New Year's Eve and racing down to the local Oxxo. I didn't make it and wound up greeting the new year more sober than I wanted to be.

I believe sales of beer and alcohol are cut off at midnight in retail establishments anyway.

I'm sure many businesses would prefer to stay open later. I think 10am opening is a bit late, but I can't remember getting out of bed and going any earlier than that.

Personally it is better for me to close early as I work late and when I do hit the Zona it is around 11pm or midnight...and sometimes after a few beers I make bad decisions and drink until 7 to 9 in the morning. This would save me money if nothing else.

Also, that El Sol article indicates it is a TJ wide thing and also includes convenience store and restaurants so I'm going to think this isn't going to be popular among the locals that want to go out for a drink.

A fixed cutoff time for booze just means the drunks all leave the bars at the same time versus leaving when they're tired or after they've had a chance to sober up a little while still in the bar.

They have shut down the bars early several times in the last 10 years. I cannot recall it ever lasting more than 2 weeks.

3Am isn't bad and it still beats California cut off at 1:30am and taking away you drink at 2:00AM.

I think the only ones to mind will be the drunks.

The good think is now you'll be able to negotiate "TLNs" with the girls starting around 2:30AM instead of 5am.

I don't know how many times I been in bars and wanted the girl to come to my hotel when I was staying over night in TJ, and they would tell me that they don't get off till 6 AM.( of course I rarely stay over night any more)

I also heard that if bars pay a fee they may be able to stay open longer?

It will be interesting to see what happens as I recall they tried this one time before?

My favorita at Adelita that I hadn't seen since the holidays and I were chatting and she said the Adelita and the other bars are now closing at 3am. I asked two meseros that confirmed that is was also in effect for the weekend. My chica was bummed that it gave her less time to get her fichas and arribas. Interestingly, when I was at Hong Kong earlier in the night, I thought I heard the DJ saying something about being their being open veinticuarto horas.

Since it was a school night I was back across the border at midnight so I didn't witness the closings first hand. But my chica said the night before at 3am, the cops show up and you had to leave. I saw on another board confirmation that at about 15 minutes before close AB announced last call and they stopped letting people in. The meseros and the taxi driver the dude on the other board talked to said it was going to be a seven day a week new rule.

It looks like it Tijuana is trying this for at least a month to see if it impacts crime, drunk driving, blah blah blah.

I usually bang bar girls but wonder if this will become like the Nana parking lot in Bangkok after Nana plaza closes. That is when many bar girls become street girls. The law seems only to apply to sales of alcohol and the party continues.
