Scam Alert!!!

Just a word of warning for those planing to visit Rock Hard bar.

I was there this afternoon for a drink and made the mistake of ordering a mixed drink. Bad move. I got my drink, but I'd bet my life on the fact that it contained no alcohol. In other words, I was scammed for 195 baht.

My advice: order a beer. At least that way you get what you pay for.

I said something about it to the girl that was sitting with me, but I'm not sure she understood. Anyway, let's jut say it was a mixed drink.

They may have made a few baht on the scam, but it'll cost them thousands in the long run, from me.

Never had problems with drinks in Rock Hard.
And if you thought there was "not enough" alcohol in it, you should have mentionned it to the waitress or a manager, not to the girl sitting next to you. What do you expect of her if you say yourself you are not sure she understood.
Like all girls in bars like that they are only interested in their perceneforum.xxxe on lady drinks and barfine.

Bartenders do make mistakes sometimes too. I agree, if nothing was said to the manager how was it supposed to be resolved? Can't always make assumptions, unless it has been reported of happening more than once at least....

If you were so certain there was no alcohol in it you should have sent it back and asked for one with alcohol in.

I think if you didn't then you effectively scammed yourself.

It may even be possible that this mixed drink (I'm presuming a cocktail of some sort?) may have been a virgin (non-alcoholic) cocktail and something may have been lost in translation?

Hardly worthy of such a dramatic thread title lol but maybe an object lesson to some in getting what you paid for?

Could have been a drink mixed with one of the lesser brands you're used to.

I generally order my mixed drinks with a certain brand, that way I know what it taste like when I get it......:cocktail:

Orange juice and Ice probably cost substantially more than the alcohol you assume they didn't put in.

back in summer rock hard did something like tequila tuesday/thursday or something...can't remember what the deal was...maybe free shot with every beer...anyway the first shot they gave me was so watered down you could barley taste it...i was expecting to pull my funny face when downing it as i normally dont like them but this time nothing...i could have drunk pints of the stuff.... I told them and they got me another...and this time surprisingly it was the real stuff...no explanation or a sorry (not that i would have expected one)..just a smile like well done you caught us out this time....

Yeah, Kris, just some more bar business logic I don’t understand. You see this sort of short changing all the time at happy hours…..I guess it works more often than not.

Why go to the trouble of getting a relatively sober customer in the door and then give him a dud drink when he can still taste the difference?

Isn't happy hour really just a bait and switch type of thing anyway – bait to get him in the door and switch him to full price drinks once H hour ends?

I am a bit like the OP, I will just pay up and go find a better bar, does not mean I will never be back, just that I am not staying there tonight. :

These days (being married, old and needing my sleep) I often hit places like Walking St or Soi Cowboy early evening and can sample more than one place's Happy Hour(s) during a leave pass - while I don't expect much from a 40 baht scotch and coke I do expect more than watery warm cola – one night last trip in Jan I lasted two drinks at two bars in Cowboy this way, and at the third go-go’s happy hour I got a real whiskey/coke and was still there a couple of thousand baht later.

Maybe I should have said something to the manager, but I didn't. I figure that's why they're in business, right? To serve alcohol.
If they can't do it right, I'll just go elsewhere from now on. Sort of like a restaurant. If I go to a restaurant and get crap food, I won't go back to that place.

I guess they must have about 50 staff in there, day and night shift. Do you expect the manager to drink from every glass to check if it has the correct amount? And I allways found that the measures for alcohol are to small... but they are the same in every bar.
BTW, tequila nights or the girls drinking tequila as lady drink in most bars is not amazing. Try reading the label on a bottle..... made from rice, product from Thailand/Vietnam. Costprice per bottle? I guess 300 Baht or less. And I wouldn't be amazed if some bars even watered that down as I have seen girls drinking 15-18 tequilas in an evening.

funny thing...I gave a good friend of mine who is an ex BG a bottle or Mezcal as a birthday present recently....I asked her later if she enjoyed it and she said that a few of her galpals (also BGs or exBGs) gave it a try and none could drink it...."same same naam phet hong naam" was her description.....(which means same as hot/spicey toilet water 555)

Beer or one bottle of spirits. That is how you know that you get the real stuff. But maybe we sometimes should be happy that the drinks are a little watered?
