With the Board's permission, I am starting seperate threads for each brand of chair. I think it will make it easier for people to decide what kind of chair they want to purchase.

Please comment (good, bad, or ugly -- well, not too ugly ) only about Pisces Productions massage chairs (Dolphin I or II) in this thread.

I own a Pisces Chair and love it. It adjusts to fit from children to huge adults, is super strong and stable, folds up easily, folds up short and wide rather than tall and thin like other chairs. Also has no cross bar to interfere w/women in skirts and you can remove knee pad to allow clients to put feet on floor if desired (great for elderly clients). Highly recommend!!!

my Dolphin II

Not only does it have a unique & cool design, but with my business being primarily chair massage, I thought it would provide me the the most versatility. And I'm a Pisces, too - how could I go wrong?

I splurged for the Lapiz Blue Ultra-Leather, but later wished I'd opted for the carrying case. Either option is an additional $70.

As well as being versatile, this chair is very sturdy. The Ultra-Leather is super soft, too, and it has wonderful padding. It was everything I had hoped for in those regards.

Design on this chair had improved since the video that was enclosed with it had been made. For those familiar with it, you no longer need to shake the support beams to modify the height, they now move freely.

Things I do not like about this chair:

The arm rest. It's too small; design does not support the arm when giving a hand massage. When the client is seated, their arms rest against the support beam.

The patented I-Rest® adjustment for the face cradle. Even after watching the video twice and a lot of practice, it is still awkward to adjust. I have also found it necessary to put a hand towel over it for my client's comfort during treatment.

Travel mode. It is very bulky when reduced for carrying, sitting 18" high laid flat on the floor - a height that seems to encourage people to sit on it (NO!)
This also makes it difficult to carry on my shoulder through a doorway.

Lastly, the... um? client weight bearance. I have tried different adjustments, but in every position, the weight of the client is supported by the legs and knees, not the seat.

Well I bought one of these chairs last week, and had a chance to use it today. I like the adjustablility of it. It seems a little bit more adjustable than my old one was. I only wish that the head rest moved vertically independantly of the chest piece if needed.

I agree, the client seems to be resting on their knees rather than the seat, but I wonder if changing the angle of the seat might make a difference. I have a lot of playing to do with this yet.

All my clients seem to be very happy with it so far. I had a generic chair from Knowr Your Body Best (in toronto Canada) and it worked well. But my clients find the pisces more comfortable than the other one.

Transporting is a bit of an issue, much bulkier than my old one. Doesn't fit in my trunk, I have to put it in my back seat. When I walk, even with the wheels, it hits the back of my legs (small issue, but was annoying), and carrying is quite awkward.

All in all, I was happy to buy it, a little expensive, but I am happy with it. I wouldn't have bought it had necessity/opportunity not come around, but any chance to buy a new toy, I take.

I may have more to say after I use it a few more times.

Just got it.

Well I just got my Dolphin this week, and I have to say it is very different than other chairs. But so far so good! The instructional video is old and imo not well made, but it serves the purpose.
I haven't had much practice with the adjustability, but what I have had to do was no more confusing than any other chair I have worked with.
I can really feel the difference in my posture while working, and I love the fact it adjusts to a horizontal position.
As the time goes if I love or hate anything else, I will post it. I found this fourm very benificial while I was determining which chair to go with, and I hope it will help your decision too!

Hi,

We've owned the Pices pro for a couple of years now. We like it. Takes a little bit of practice to learn to adjust it. But what I like is the total adjustability of it. you can even adjust it and have the client lie down on it.

for some reason the velcro adhesive on mine came off. They sent me new velcro and and haven't put it on yet. Customer support was/is good.

I would say if your willing to spend a little time learning how to use this tool. I think you'll be rewarded with a flexibility in a chair that just isn't available elsewhere.

Dolphin Chair

Well I did my first 2 chair events on Sat and Mon with the Dolphin! It was a breeze! The set up of the chair was so easy, and the clients loved how I could work on their low back so easily. Kudos to Pisces Pro!

I had purchased a used Dolphin II last spring, original owner said she owned for 6-7 yrs if i recall correctly. I resold it shortly after. I had to stack pillows to use it with my children, and it did not fit my petite adult neighbor due to the chest pad and face cradle configuration.

i cannot comment on the tall therapist aspect...i'm almost 5'4". :

I've had the Pisces chair for 4 years now and love it. I had an issue with the face cradle device and they promptly sent me out a new updated version that works well. I'm 5'11'' and don't have an issue with it in the prone position though it is a bit lower than my table. I like low heights anyways. Just take care with your body mechanics and you should be fine. Let me know and I'll try to answer any other questions.

Interested in purchasing a used Pisces Dolphin for $325. That is about half the retail price.

Is this chair adaptable to a tall (6-1) therapist?

is the horizontal position used all that much?

Is it an issue for clients to be supported by knees rather than by the seat?

Any issues that have cropped up with this chair?

The only issue I've had was mentioned in my last post. Make sure to get the updated face cradle or whatever you call it on a chair.
I personally don't use the prone position all that much but that is because of the venues where I do chair massage. People that get on my chair are looking for mostly shoulder and neck work. I have never used it for supine work though supposedly you can.
I'm not sure if it would be too low for you. I'm 5'11" and I can make it work but I like a lower massage table then some. I use good body mechanics and let my weight work for me.

Thanks, good advice. It might work well for me because I also use a low table. And the diff between 5-11 and 6-1 is "only" 2-inches.

My concern was that from the images on Pices Web site, it looks like the client is using the seat as a backstop and she is really kneeling.

Previous posters had mentioned that there are adjustments to the seat which could alleviate that problem. I'll be working with elders and athletes who may find kneeling uncomfortable.

Yes, particularly for older clients and anyone with knee problems. With the weight being supported by the knees, the client is kneeling in the chair for the duration of the treatment; even with the cushions, that is not a comfortable position.

I would agree the kneeling can be a problem with someone with knee problems. That being said the prone position is awesome and gives you tremendous acess to lower back.
