Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has done anything to the ceiling to make it more enjoyable for the client. I want to put up somekind of mural and came across this website. I was wondering what everybody else thought about this. :

Aimelie..........No time to check out the web site now.  But.......I have often thought of putting something on the ceiling.  Clients eyes are usually closed most of the time.....but they do open them at some point!  Most of my clients look at my ceiling anyway because I have the bars installed for the Ashiatsu.  Have been thinking what I coud do to make it more interesting up there.

I'm not sure if this would work well or not. When giving a massage, there is still light in the room, and the only way to get the 'stars' on the ceiling to shine like that would be to put blacklights in the room. As long as there is a small lamp in the room, I don't think the stars will "shine" enough to notice. I have those icky tile cielings in my office (you know, the ones that look like a grid) and thought of hanging plastic ivy across the ceiling just to fill the room and make it look different.

I looked at these guys when they were at the home show here in Salt Lake City, I thought it would be fun to have, but to enjoy the full benefit the room would have to be totally dark.

I also have the "grid" on the ceiling of my space.  At one point, I have a bunch of the glow in the dark stars stuck to the ceiling.  I haven't received any bad feedback about the stars.  Most of them just say things like.. "oh wow! there are stars!".. or "NEAT!".. or "Cute"... The night sky mural looks pretty neat, too.  BUT, the stars only cost me $2.

I haven't taken a look at the site yet, but I will.I have really ugly ceilings in my office too.  I took some fabric and wooden rods and draped the fabric across the ceiling.  It looks really nice and makes a pretty big difference.

Hi everyone,I was told that there was a discussion on this board, so I thought that I'd come by to see if I can answer any questions.After reading your posts, and I think that I also answered questions from one or two of you before, I'd like to tell you how this product can work.Someone mentioned that the room needs to be very dark... which is kind of true. I recently started using a new pigment in my paints that is much brighter than anyting that I had used previously so it no longer is necessary to have a completely dark room, but the darker the better.Here is what I did for one massage therapist here in Salt Lake City. She was using an tall lamp that had a dimmer on it when she gave a masssage. She would turn the light down fairly low during the massage. We decided to install two black lights, one on each side of the table, which she would use during the massage. I added a fluorescing liquid to the paint that made the stars shine really nicely under the black light, which was also charging the stars.The blacklight is a really nice and relaxing light to use during a massage which was an added benefit.What the massage therapist told me she did, which her clients really loved, was to turn off the black lights at the end of the massage and let the client lie there for 5 minutes or so before getting up to get dressed. She told me that everyone loves it and loves to lie there looking at the night sky as they come bace to reality.I've done a couple of ceilings for massage therapists and each one has told me that they and their clients really love it.You don't need someone like me to come in and paint a mural. You can search around the internet and get a stencil and paint a mural yourself. They won't be as real looking as what we do, but then again it will be better than a black ceiling and better than the plastic stars.I also have stencils for people who can't afford to have me paint the mural. Yikes!!  I would think that turning on a blacklight would be kind of creepy.  Of course a ceiling like that would look nice with a blacklight, but the therapist and client would be glowing (eyes and teeth)?  Makes everything seem a bit unattractive except for the ceiling.

I think the murals are lovely! However, I have a problem with massages being done in very dimly lit rooms. I used to work in a spa where the couple's massages were done by candlelight. As I worked on the client's legs he informed me that he had poison ivy all over his ankles, which was not visible in the low light. This is an extreme example, and no, this spa does not use intake forms. Also this spa is not in the United States.My point is, is it worth it to diminish the ability to see client problems in order to have a night sky?I like the idea of turning off the lights AFTER the massage very much.

Hi again,You all make good points and it is so true that under a black light your eyes and teeth are pretty scary. I guess that you just need to have a good relationship with your clients. I just thought that dim lights were part of the experience to make a relaxing atmosphere... but that makes sense too, about wanting to see any possible problems. I think that they might even be more visible under the black light though. I know that all of my imperfections, which are many, show up under it. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts and comments about my product. In my Idaho office I covered my icky ceiling tiles and flourescent lights with fabric. I had light sage green and natural cream colors and weaved them together. Clients said they liked it and it looked soft like clouds. I lit the room with a floor lamp. If anyone wants to see a picture you can find one at http://www.artish.org under the username "sadiedawn"I used sheets to create the look, ripped them apart and used a staple gun to put them up. I used the same sheets (unripped, of course) on my massage table so it added a put-together look.

Night Sky!!*SIGH* Just heavenly!!! I can imagine the sensation after massage when the client is feeling "floaty"...and the ceiling disappears! That is actually a powerful meditative technique! I'm grateful for the bookmark will keep it on my "wish list"... thanks! Sadie, I love what you did with your room as well. Ours is a great venue for muralists to express their talents *lol* how can we not think of what the client sees face up?..hopefully we've at least banished all the spider webs and dust bunnies! *g*

I stapled the sheets to the walls, not the ceiling because they DID fall out of the ceiling tiles. Last time I saw that massage office the therapist had redecorated. Of course, i didn't like it as much. She had wildlife pictures (which I don't like). And visible linens (a pet peeve of mine). I had all my linens in the wicker chest in the corner and all the decorations were very natural looking. The wood in the room was mostly unfinished. I made sure it had a very distinct look and was picky about everything I put in the office (the only exception was the blue yoga ball). The other therapist, well, she just moved in and wasn't as committed to the space. At least that's my perspective. Yeah, it was a little sad to go back and see it not as "perfect" as I thought it was when it was mine. It's all a matter of perspective though. She seems to be enjoying the space. my current office, well, I'm working out of my guest house and moved in not too long ago. I am still rearranging furniture and thinking about what I'm doing with art. When I have it polished, I'll post pictures on the other site. It'll have a taste of India since that's my current obsession.

I disguised my cheap grid ceilings at work with grass beach mats... I glued them onto the tiles with spray adhesive and trimmed them to size with a utility knife.  It cost me about $50 to do 360 square feet, and the look is fresh, organic, and very Asian.  It looks awesome!! I hope that nobody thinks that I came here to try to push my product. I came here when I noticed that people were checking out my site from a link on this site... and I just was hoping to answer questions.The stencil is a great option and I even offer the same stencil that you linked to in the previous post and I also offer a larger one. The one linked to is 8 foot. I offer the 8 foot and a 12 foot stencil too, but you have to ask for them.So, if anyone is wondering if they are good or not... they are. They aren't nearly as detailed as what we do, but it isn't always necessary to have the detail. The stencil kits come with a decent paint that glow for about 45 minutes until it is completely gone and it does show up a bit in the light. If you buy a stencil but would like a better, longer glowing paint that is more invisible, I can also sell just paint. The paint that is in the kit is a yellow/green paint. What I can sell is either a long glowing version of that... or an aqua colored paint that is really nice. Or, there are other places to get paint. For example, you can get great quality paint at http://www.readysetglo.com Mine is a little thicker and retains a little better glow, but what they have is awesome too.Both, what I sell and what ReadySetGlo sells is much more invisible in the light.So, the stencil is a great option... and it can be made even better with a higher quality paint.The other things that were done to the ceilings sound really nice, but I have no experience with them.Jeff Stewartwww.NightSkyMurals.com

I don't think Night Sky was trying to push his product, in fact I like the idea that he cared enough about the work he does to take some time out to answer any questions that we may have.
