Lomi-lomi training in Hawaii

I'm interested in any feedback or recommendations for Lomi-lomi training--preferably located at the source, Hawaii. I know Carrie Rowell has been recommended but I'm not sure she offers any training on the island.

Anyone been there, done that? Thanks!

Look up what Auntie Margaret's daughter, Nerita or her apprentices may be teaching on Big Island.

That would be my first pick and what I've heard most highly spoken of. I can never get my down time to coincide with when they are offering classes, but I have faith that when the right time comes for this to be a part of my life, the pieces will fall into place and it will happen.

Lomi

I was trained by Alice Belusko in Florida. She interned for two years under Auntie Margaret. She is the closest thing to the source itself.

Now there are 5 different styles of Lomi. I've found Auntie Margaret's to be the best. Temple Lomi is a nice Hawaiian version of Swedish. I have had a session. I like dit and want to learn it, but it does not do the work of Auntie Margaret's.

I have sevral clients that are in constant pain because of a lifetime at their jobs. One is a barber. A.M.'s version goes into his muscles deeply, stretches them and reduces his pain. He had been coming weekly, but has gotten so much better that he is now coming every other week. His range of motion has increased and his pain has greatly reduced.

carrie rowell is an awesome instructor!

Hi, I realize the original posting of this question was several months ago, but I just joined this forum.

I have taken TS Lomi workshops from Carrie Rowell, and I REALLY ENJOYED them! I took one in Los Angeles when I was living there and last year took her week-long intensive on the island of Maui. I'm not sure if or when she will be offering another intensive on the islands, but should you have a chance to take any of her workshops, I HIGHLY recommend them. Of course, I believe in going to the source, so a workshop that actually takes place on the islands gives you a greater sense of this style of work.

Carrie is a sueforum.xxx instructor if you are looking specifically to take TS Lomi.

I'l just add that Celtic KaHuna (Ireland) and Touch of Aloha (Queensland, Australia) both trained with METTE SØRENSEN (Queensland, Australia)originally. I did my training with Mette's Institute and it was outstanding, their level 1-6 courses are Temple Style lomi lomi (called KaHuna in Australia), which is the same style that Tom and Donna teach, with the flying and lots of forearm strokes. Does a tax deductable trip to Australia sound tempting?????

Mette's Level 1-3 courses will allow you do do a full body massage and you get a certificate. Levels 4-6 build on the foundations.

I fell in love with Lomi-Lomi ever since doing a report on it for my Massage Class. My calling is definitely to visit one of the Islands to get the true ambience of the "dance". However, my budget currently has a stronger influence than my own personal desires.

She apprenticed with Auntie Margaret. Was one of her first students before she taught in a school setting. I love Tamara. She was married to a hawaiian and lived there for many years. She later moved to California and had the blessings of Autie Margaret to start teaching lomilomi. She's been teaching for many years now.

I love Tamara (pronounced tom-are'-a rather than tamra). She has a wonderful sense of humor and exhibits much love. I envision Auntie Margaret also having a wonderful sense of humor and much love. I highly recommend her classes.

lomi lomi hawaiian massage

hi,

i have just been back from Hawaii, and took an intensive 3 weeks class with DR> makaala yates.
I strongly recommend him, he is a native hawaiian, and also a chiropractor.
He studied for years with auntie Margaret.
The reason why I like his teachniques, is that he combines traditional and science, and it is amazing.
I did the level 1 clinical lomi, level 2 advance lomi ( problem solving), level 3 lomi hot stone, and i will be back next year for the lomi joint mobilization.

Also you have to decide which lomi style you want, as there is the emple style, which more of relaxation lomi.

Mana Lomilomi

While this is an old post stream I wanted to say a few things.
1) Since the last posting in 2007, Dr. Maka'ala Yates and his lomi ohana/ community have differentiated themselves by the name Mana lomilomi. I have trained with them since 2005, under him and several other teachers within this school, the Hawaiian Healing Institute. This school has evolved from the lifelong conversation that took place between Maka'ala and Aunty Margaret.
I have been worked on by several other lomi practitioners and each interpretation offers some aspect of aloha and healing. Maka'ala and his teachers carry a most beautiful, effective, gentle and powerful technique that leaves all recipients w/o a doubt as to their connection to source. The school offers a well rounded experience that benefits the whole student beyond the usual lecture and practice model. From the oli to the hale puoluolu (sweat lodge) to their outreach into the heart of hawaiian communities, this school is actively engaging in the healing and alignment needed within ourselves, the community and the land itself. I am always learning and healing with everything I carry from these teachers, and have never wanted for more clients.

2) Tom and Donna and their precious son are a beautiful family who work hard to teach their lomi. I have not studied with them, but our conversations always end too soon.

3) To understand, really understand the kaona (hidden meanings) of these teachings and the Hawaiian culture itself, we westerners, mainlanders, outsiders need to go with a fresh humility, and a commitment to understand. I lived there for 5 years and worked in the community and still have so many questions. Go, contribute, learn, ask, love, contribute more, and leave at the right time.

aunty margaret machado gave her blessing to only 4 people over the years to teach, yet many others teach what she taught them.

if you get the chance to be taught by Uncle Dan Higgins you will be blessed. he was one of the 4 of them who she gave her blessing to teach her work. He teaches like 1-2 times a year at the blue sky school of professional massage in wisconsin, but lives in Nebraska where his practice is. He has been a massage therapist since the mid 1960's and has a hawaiian heart
