is there a any cure for this addiction?

hey all i am about to go on my 7th tour of duty and am well and truely addicted to the place. i recall my first time getting a freelancer in bkk and i only got her because my mate was gettin her friend and we had a twin room in ambassador hotel, so didnt want to be left out. since then i have went over the 60 mark in bgs and freelancers combined and every year i cant help but count the days til i can afford to go back again. i am hopelessly in love with the place and think that the only cure to this addiction is to eventually move over there for good. unfortunately it will be many years til i can afford to do this, in the meantime i think i am limited to the once or twice a year bag emptying session. i thank god every day that i have found this place and hope it dosnt change too much by the time i can afford to move there for good.wishful thinkin i know. thai girls are a lovely change from the fat single mothers you tend to see in the post office with a fag in their mouth here in miserable ireland. ROLL ON 5th OCT!!! any advice from anyone who has been cured or who has the cure is appreciated.!

want to eventually move there to.. wish had that kinda cash at moment.
was gonna do a disappering act year of tsunumi but was gonna be to complicated with death cert, insurance etc. especially if no body was found...

Living here is good...it solves missing it, but you need to have a plan...i went nuts at first, now i'm settled and to be married to an amazing lady, the likes of which i would never have found in the west...that's how i got over it...i found a GTG who wont be bettered...i was damn lucky!

Next time your in Thailand, if you have time, stop by Ned's Bar in Sakon Nakhon. He's from Ireland too.
Besides, country BGs are a bit different from the ones in the tourist centers.

You poor silly bastrad, how many times have you been there and not realised that there is NO CURE" for what you are suffering from, the symptoms can be mitigated by spending more time in LOS, but be warned the symptoms just get worse whenever you return to your homeland and their onset is quicker and more severe. My symptoms start whenever I get on the plane to go there as I already know I must come back. The only way is to go back and stay there.

Yes, spend your money on other things and go to the interesting and fun places, shooting the breeze in your own part of the world:yes:
Do not sit on your hands saving all your money waiting for Los to come around again and I'm astonished that is what some of you blokes do :surprised:

Having spent eight months in the last ten living in Thailand and Cambo, I know I am a fine one to talk because the Thai thing did consume me for a while but while I'm here in Europe, I certainly plan to make the best of it and the weekend I just had reinforced that view.:wink2:

I have exactly the same outlook. I could probably make another trip to LOS every year if I stayed in every weekend, but that would drive me mad. I like to socialise, have a few beers on a Fri night,a meal out now and then, and not worry too much about enjoying myself.
I admire the self will of the guys like IJ who don't go out, but Im different. I'm not knocking other guys plans, but I couldn't stay in for 40+ weekends of the year without a drink for a couple of extra weeks in LOS. Just shows we are all different.

It's highly addictive, I couldn't imagine living anywhere else in the world, but it takes some time to get used to the pace that anything to do with authority moves,

It's more about finding the time to get to LOS for me......

If I could pop over for a longweekend I would....but with 13 hours flying time and joining flights/taxis at either end I wouldn't do it for less than a week.....and I just can't be away for that amount of time at the moment

Lately I have had a few 3 day weekends in Tonga, Fiji and Samoa doing some diving.....plus I also spend about a third of my weekends in Sydney....so sometimes when I am here in NZ all I want to do is sit at home have a few friends over for dinner/drink some wine/play a game of golf/watch a game of rugby or football

Agree 100%. Nothing wrong with an addiction, but there is no point in suffering withdrawal symptoms when you can't get your fix. Life is too short not to enjoy it fully no matter where you are.

its not that i dont go out...i play golf every sunday morning and have lunch with my mates afterwards.....this usually takes up most of my sunday..........
as for saturdays..i work a lot of them...so im usually tired when i get home.....so im quiet happy to have a takeaway and watch a few movies......

I am pretty sure there is no cure.

Will be doing everything I can to get there for 5 days before Christmas sometime. Don't like my chances. Next march is guaranteed though!

This forum and peoples trip reports keep me going.
