Chat Is 60 the new 40?

When I was growing up people in their sixties were old! Here I am at 61, still active and still hobbying. Don't get me wrong, I do not have the energy or looks I used to have, my hair is rapidly disappearing, and my body is fairly beat up from martial arts, wrestling and rugby in my younger days, but I am still strong and still hustling. We know more about and care more about being healthy than our parents and grandparents, drink less and smoke less or not at all. And we know more and care more about nutrition and supplements. I am on testosterone replacement therapy, which I think is hugely beneficial, plus I take a bunch of supplements and try to be careful with my diet. The reason this is on my mind is that I recently listened to Hulk Hogan being interviewed by Joe Rogan. For all he has been through the guy is doing really well at 70! And he is still active, strong and lucid. Sylvester Stallone is in amazing shape at 77. While most of us do not have their resources, these guys at least show us that it is possible to be fit, strong and sexually active well into the later years. My father kept working as an engineer until he was 80 (at which point he just did not have the patience to continue), and I can see myself working even later. Will I still be hobbying at 70? Probably. At 80? Maybe. At 90? Unlikely but who knows! One sentiment I really believe in (credit Ray Kurzweil) is that if you can stay healthy and have resources, you will be able to take advantage of the coming improvements in longevity medicine that are coming. And maybe you can then live long enough to see the advent of medicines to make you biologically younger and repair a lot of age related wear and tear. I think anti-aging medicine will be like cell phones - initially very expensive, not that good and only affordable by elites, but over time if will get better, cheaper and available to most people.

I understand your concept.
Being of similar vintage, you may recall when 'Freedom 55' was touted as an aspirational goal.

I did everything to reach that, and then once realized economically, I didn't have enough outside interests (besides this hobby) to fill the days.

Most men need to feel a sense of accomplishment, so I've carried on, cutting back business hours along the way.

My dad was able to retire before he was 60 as he was an outdoors-man who always had a couple of girlfriends well into his 80s,

SO, not necessarily is 60 the new 40 as far as physical ability goes, BUT what we do with the last 30 years of our lives attitudinally has been redefined for me.

I am in my 50s and ve been thinking about this topic. I have been strength training for the last few years , I think that has changed my own view point about getting older. If you maintain you body I know a lot of 70 year olds that look close to mid 50s or so.

Also 61 and, while probably in the best physical shape of my life, there's no denying certain physical limitations/deteriorations due to aging.

I often find I have to check myself before delaying or not doing different tasks, or giving opinions on things I have not researched that deeply. This was always true, but at my age and in my position it is too easy to do. As Joey Diaz often says: "Check yourself before you wreck yourself".

I have no filter, I don’t give a rats ass of anything that comes out of my mouth and I certainly don’t suffer from premature ejaculation ,but, I’m finding myself checking the rear view mirror..what colour was that light?

I am 76. Looks in my 60s, still have some left over 6 packs. I never think I am old. Still carrying 40 lbs golf bag and walking and playing golf at least 5 days a week.. Muscles are made to move, use it or lose it. Age will take away some flexibility and strength out of you but regular exercise will keep you fit and healthy. I used to hit my driver 280 yds avg until I was 70, but now barely 220. Just eat well, sleep well , do exercise regularly and learn to live stress free life. Stress is the number one killer and make you look older faster.

I just watched Billy Jean King being interviewed the other day. I would have never known she is now 80 if she wasn't congratulated about it. She doesn't look 60. Amazing. That being said, things can change very quickly healthwise. I know lots of people that have died in their 40's. That's a lesson to all of us that we have to live like today is our last day. Look at what happened to Ursula. One day he's cursing the Covid restrictions, next day he's 6 feet under.

Tim Horton was still a very effective NHL defenceman at age 44, when suddenly he died in a car accident. Gordie Howe scored 15 goals the last season he played in the NHL at age 54. He still didn't reach 90. Accidents and disease can catch you when you aren't looking. Be careful out there. Life is fragile.

I must confess though, I'm not any better now than I was at any point of my life. How do you improve yourself when you've always been in great shape?

Usefulidiot, thanks for being an intelligent human being and consistently adding value to this board. I'm 57 and pretty much everyone thinks in my thirties. When I walk around with my 24 year old daughter, people think I'm her boyfriend. I was a multisport athelete when I was young and have kept active. Weight is the same as when I was 25 but did go way up for a while in my 30s.
So yes, feel and act like I'm 40. Really enjoy hammering a beautiful, sexy woman 2-3x per week. No more 3 pumps and done but very happy about that. As are the women I click with!
