Major world events such as 911 lead to predictions of worse things to come that usually do not happen. In the weeks to come after the insurrection I see a few possibilities, but I do not have any certainty. I hope that most of the Trump's supporters are embarrassed by what happened and will distance themselves from the extreme elements of their movement (the Proud boys, 3%ers, Nazis, etc.). And I hope that those more simple souls with grievances who meandered into extremism have blown their wads and do not have an appetite for further mayhem. However the conditions that led to the rise of Trump and the insurrection are still there and will be for some time. And it seems not all of the insurrectionists have left Washington yet. This highlights enormous responsibility that those in leadership positions have. I invite you to take part in the above poll.

I don't think any arrests were made, have they? Until those people are put away, there's always potential they can come back and do worse things, either at the inauguration or at other times. I just hope security won't be caught with their pants down, like they did last week.

About 20 have been charged so far, and many more will follow. People were stupid enough to live stream themselves during the riot, most of whom had no mask or disguise. They will also be charged. And thanks to Trump they could face ten years in jail for damaging public buildings and monuments. What remains to be seen is what will happen to those that organized the riot, obstructed the national guard, and made sure the Capital Police were unarmed and under-manned.
