Good question. Many, many problems facing Canada now. A guy could go off tangent here in one sentence.
Absolutely discretionary spending will take a big hit. May not see or feel it for a month or two, but when the tarriffs hit, people will start to cut back even more than they are now.
This hobby, restaurants, other leisure activities will be the first casualties. People will/should tighten their budget to needs not wants. As for myself I had a few improvement projects I wanted to do this summer. Not. It can wait.
As far as layoffs at companies/businesses...some will do temporary layoffs to see where this goes and how long. Others may go into full permanent layoff mode.
You would think prices would drop in the massage world. If a place is not busy, what else you do. Will ladies just leave the business?
This is the elephant and the mouse. Remember that analogy when comparing USA/Canada economic relationship?

If these tariffs catapult a slow down in the economy here in Alberta , the spas could see a decline in business period . I am curious as well to see how they will respond to it. Competition for clients may erupt or they may use that excuse to raise prices. If prices increase I know how I plan to respond .

The way I see it, MT prices must significantly drop to keep the appointment slots full or they close the shops because the rent can't be paid due to no clients.
This Teriff tax will immediately slow our economy and impact jobs. No jobs or slow down in the labour force = only affordable play time. Imported 25% higher cost for goods and food will further impact the consumer's ability to play on a regular basis.

A lot of people are having a tough time as is, and with the tariffs it's just going to make things worse. Rates may have an overall downward adjustment since some business is better than no business: I will be paying more closely to the rates that are being quoted publicly. Of course businesses still need to make a profit, but the margins will be slimmer. More competition is good for customers, but if the tariffs are also hitting their bottom line, it might not be good if they are worse off because of the tariff.
