calling a guy instead of chatting online?

so i have this old friend of mine who i havent seen for two years and who i recently started talking more and more with online. and he gave me his number to call him so one time when we were chatting he was saying how whenever he chats online with me he is also chatting with other people and so he want me to call me no lie he said:
hey you have to call me because this chatting thing isnt going to work
Please call me sometime tomorrow
after 2 pm
anytime
any day
ok
so anyways i do want to talk with him but i am scared what if he is just telling me to call him cause he doesnt want to talk to me online maybe its a bother to him? why does he want me to call? and i am a bit nervous because even though my parents know me and him talk my mom is a bit oldfashioned like she doesnt believe girls should tell guys they like them because what appropriate girl does that and not to be texting older guys if its not for anything important, i do get her at times like i have a habit of crushing on older guys but i get over it and yea i had a heartbreak once over a guy but it was for something that she doesnt know about so she thinks it because he was older and i was too young...so anyways i am sure she would think it not right to call him but i am in college already and really want to talk to him i am visitng my parents so i cna wait till i return home but i dont know plus why does he want me to call? thanks for your help i am much confused

If he's telling you he wants you to call him then there is no way you are bothering him. Most likely he probably just wants to have a better more "one on one" conversation with you. Talking on the phone with someone is more intimate and personal than chatting online which is why some people prefer it. I'm not a guy but, I know sometimes I'd rather talk to people over the phone rather than just talking online all the time, sometimes I just want to hear the other persons voice and their hear their verbal reactions in a conversation, rather than just reading text over a screen.
As for if you should call him, personally if you want to I think you should. If your in college I'm assuming you are a legally an adult, you have the right to call whoever you want to, regardless of the situation with your parents.

Calling is better than chatting online. It's more personal and makes both of you feel like you are talking face to face. chatting online is just a stupid thing that people that arn't in love do.

As a guy I hate talking over instant messages or even texting for that matter. I would rather talk on the phone.. He wants you to call him because he would rather hear you speaking. And if your that scared of calling him, give him your number. Make him call you first.
