Taking the meds doesn't create super bacterias and viruses. Not taking them in their entirety does. There's no cure for HIV so if theres only a 72 hour window after possible exposure to possible prevent it, you bet your ass I'm going to take that chance. Me taking PEP isnt going to create a super HIV later on down the road if I don't contract it in the first place.
People that dont take STDs seriously and keep spreading them without treatment are the real risk to this hobby. 1 in 4 has an STD. These girls see about 30-40 dudes a week. Statistically speaking these girls almost have to catch something at some point. Some STDs take a few weeks to months to show up. I wasnt going to wait 3 months, then start treatment. The doc said take these meds to be sure and I did.

Not really. The doctor makes a decision based on statistical probability. The chances of you getting something is "low" as it stands. Taking the meds makes an already low risk "lower". Nothing is really 0%, so I rather throw everything at something for my own health. Now several other factors come into play. These drugs have side effects, you require testing, return visits, the cost of the drugs etc. All stuff that the doctor has to take into consideration. Basically asking himself, is it worth it to spend government time and money on this patient when the chances are so low. He's not being neglectful statistically. He's just not doing the absolute most he can do. Him not giving you the drugs is justified legally and statistically. But I stand by my decision to throw everything at something to make the risk AS LOW AS POSSIBLE.

Take removing lumps from the breast as an example. Did you know that over 95% of breast lump biopsies are benign? What does this mean? It means doctors are performing biopsies on lumps when they don't need to. It is a huge strain on the system. Because of this, biopsies are only done if there are several indications that a lump is suspicious and if there are predisposing conditions (family history, smoker, etc). Saying that, some women want and INSIST of having it cut out. Same idea. If the risk is low why biopsy? Cause you want to do everything possible to make sure you are safe. No matter the cost.

What is the cost of Prep?

I live in the States, so I cant confirm exactly what it costs up there. Down here my insurance covered it, but I was told between $600-$1,000usd for a full 28 day course. Its 3 pills a day and they make you feel like shit...

Also, for the one person's comment about it being PrEP and not PEP.
PrEP is taken pre-exposure as a preventative measure.
PEP is taken post exposure to fight the virus before it takes hold in your body.
