Attorney for victim claims former Chattanooga masseur secretly recorded dozens more - WTVC

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A Chattanooga man who lost his job as a masseur after a client discovered he was secretly recording her changing clothes may have dozens more victims, according to the the client's attorney.

That attorney, Tonya Craft, joined Lauren Bullard at our newsroom on Monday to help Bullard share her story for the first time on camera.

She told us some of her clients have heard from investigators that the former masseur now under Chattanooga Police investigation, Kenneth Spears, may have as many as 80 victims, and more than 100 videos.

Spears worked as a masseur at the Hamilton Place Mall location of Massage Envy.

When her massage was finished, Bullard said she confronted Spears after discovering his phone recording her while she was nude during her first massage session with him.

"Kenny had left the lights on, and that was the first red flag to me, because I've never had a massage therapist leave the lights up."

She says upon lying on the table, she felt she was being recorded.

"I looked around, and that's when I saw his phone propped up in the corner, behind the hot towel warmer on the shelving, and just froze immediately, like in shock, knowing that those feelings were correct," Bullard says.

Bullard documented the incident with her own phone, and deleted the videos taken during her massage.

""I wanted proof. So all I had time to do was take a picture. There weren't any other women's videos in his gallery, because I would have deleted those too," she said.

Bullard says she didn't confront Spears until after the massage, when she found more evidence.

"After he left, I looked back over there, and his phone was there again. So I knew I had my proof."

Bullard let the Massage Envy staff know immediately about what happened.

Managers fired Spears immediately, and also reached out to Tennessee's Licensing Board, which revoked Spears' license after Spears admitted to making the recording.

Craft told us that all of Spears' potential victims who have come forward so far are women.

"I've had three new calls over the weekend. I have a new call later today," Craft says.

Spears has still not been arrested and charged. Chattanooga Police say that hasn't happened yet because they want to make sure they have reached out to all of his potential victims.

But Bullard expressed frustration with law enforcement's response, feeling her situation wasn't taken seriously.

Craft echoed this sentiment.

"It seemed that it was very much kind of like, 'this happened, get over it, move on,'" Craft told us. "That was how she was treated. So, she called me. I just hope that he's held criminally accountable, for sure, but also, I think Massage Envy needs to be held accountable."

Craft says potential victims tell her that CPD's investigation may go back some time.

"In the investigation, it's come out that this has been going on for years. This was not a one time thing."
