Things are getting ridiculous, pretty soon police officers will be too afraid to uphold the law.

For the folks asking for the officer's head, it's not too hard to avoid these situations in the first place.

1. Don't break the law
2. Don't resist arrest
3. And for heaven's sake, don't threaten a police officer with a weapon

Is that so hard?

don't get me wrong here I don't agree with his fighting of cops and for sure the world isn't marching for him. The only people protesting are in Atlanta because there is a split opinion on his case

Deserve has got nothing to do with it. This grown man made a series of consecutive bad decisions, which ultimately cost him his life. Yes the police were justified in shooting at him. As if it would be acceptable to have a drunk or drugged man running in the open streets with a cops gun taser? Would we just as happy if he in his attempt to flee carjacked a person and stole their car ? Or worse killed someone in his attempt? Or have you all lost your minds? He was drunk and driving? There were kids in that very Wendy's parking lot...would you be happy if this POS drunk killed an innocent kid or ppl while driving ? You do know in many cases drunk drivers end up dead. Sadly same in this case

Yes...this is horrible. And awful for her. There are also ppl who wait for their loved ones to come home only to find out they were killed by a drunk driver. Like I said a series of really bad decisions were made.

the suspect shot the cops with taser. The cops simply returned fire. In police training, they were told to shoot the suspect in the chest.

I know some people are going to say the suspect is unarmed aside from the taser. When you put yourself in that situation, do you just let the suspect run away or try to contain him?

I hope you guys realize that the tazer is a deadly weapon. If he shot the cop with the tazer and immobilized him, he then could have walked up to him while he's immobilized and pick.his gun and shoot him...no way cops would ever chance that...they will shoot at you even if you make a pistol with your hand.

I speak in general terms on this subject every case is different - and we live in a non-perfect world - do mistakes happen, yes, should they, they always will because we are human - its up to the courts to figure out the rest - that's why video is so important and cops should wear body cams

Yeah so I think we're mostly in the same boat, the only thing I'd add is that when we're dealing with a body that has a monopoly on lethal force, that importance is really heightened.

You got it wrong. he was taking his daughter skating the next day. Not the day he was murdered.

"Brooks' eldest daughter turned 8 the day after her father's death. "The day after my uncle's murder, his oldest daughter sat (waiting) for her father in her birthday dress to come and take her skating"

I think the cop did what he was trained to do. I think a black policeman would have done the same thing. In the middle of a confrontation there is going to be no deep thinking, at best procedure is followed. I think the procedures in place can definitely be scrutinized, replaced. In the case of the cop who killed George Floyd there was a long history of complaints against him. He is a murderer and the "system" failed the community by still employing him.

Now lets do a thought experiment. If police had sensors on their uniform that disabled weapons that were not in range then the police could have let the guy run away. They had his name and address as well as his car so it would only be a matter of time before he was apprehended.

Two things:

1. If you're a cop, and an intoxicated man resists arrest, takes your taser, and points it at you even as he is running away from you, should you just let him go? He now has your taser, which is big trouble for you proceduraly and practically as he can tase you and take your gun while your are immobilized. And even if he doesn't do that he will then have a taser that he may use it on somebody else who he has a beef with or in the commisiion of a crime.

2. In the heat of the moment, and with a man in motion, as bumzbumz said, let alone actually running, there is slim chance that a shot to his leg will hit him. Police are trained to shoot "center mass", as that is the most reliable way of actully hitting the person and stopping him or her. If it becomes obvious that the person is wearing a kevlar vest, the next trained action is a head shot.

Police are just like you and me, in terms of, at the end of the working day, they hope to go home to their family and/or friends, and certainly not the hospital or the morgue.

This is why the police need to be defunded, overhauled and move to a community based model.

Lets remember one thing, this wasn't some guy caught at a check point. He was in a parking lot sleeping.

To be honest some friends of mine who are cops are telling me those cops don't look like they were trained properly at all just by the way they failed to subdue him. I can't speak on exactly what went wrong but they were telling me there are many errors made and that the guy should not have got away like that from two cops.
