HOW DOES A SPA MASSAGE AND A CLINICAL MASSAGE DIFFER? WHICH DO YOU NEED?

Understanding the differences between the two major massage therapy industries – European Spa Massage and Clinical Massage – will help you get the treatment that best suits your needs.

A SPA MASSAGE is a full body session using the classic Swedish techniques. It contains remedial and relaxation massage techniques. A well trained spa massage therapist will offer various pressures, from deep tissue to light touch, and ask for your preference. The option "a variety of pressures" means the therapist uses the pressure required to alleviate muscle tension, or you may indicate a preference for "deep tissue or light touch."

The massage lasts on average 50 minutes. The additional ten minutes may be used for a shower, the toilet, and taking off or putting on clothing.

The environment of the European Spa Massage resembles a spa, and the focus is creating a blissful experience with soft lighting and soothing music. There are usually add-on treatments, such as body scrubs, face, feet and scalp massages, and may be offered in value priced packages.

CLINICAL MASSAGES are different. The setting is more likely to be in or resemble a clinic, a private practice office, or hospital. First time clients may spend part of the session, or extra time, providing details of current and past health issues and complaints. Although this treatment may provide a strong element of relaxation, the many advanced techniques employed by a registered massage therapist are designed to address chronic health and pain issues.

The therapist focuses on one or two muscle groups or problem areas. On average, the massage itself is 20 minutes out of a one hour appointment. It is also likely that subsequent and frequent sessions are recommended to improve the condition in question. Your therapist designs a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Evaluations of the treatment are performed and recorded to document the success or failure of the treatment. A series of treatments are not usually offered in a value-priced package.

Both types of massage therapy have tremendous benefits to your health and wellness. The more you know about the specific differences between the two, the more likely you get exactly the treatment you are seeking. ________________________________ Ask me about specially-priced Relaxation Packages that allow you to save money while learning how to consciously relax and de-stress.
