For those of us that do this on a daily basis what has been some of the withdrawal symptoms that you have been experiencing?
I would assume that they would be somewhat different from substance abuse withdrawal symptoms because this is more of an activity based dependence.
From what I've studied in Biology and Psychology this type of activity which we call "hobbying" is sort of like playing an online video game in that waiting in the "lobby" of a video game anticipating the upcoming game can cause surges in dopamine and similarly, waiting for the MPA, induces a dopamine rush in anticipation of sexual gratification (note that this only applies to individuals that have habituated to the nervousness of waiting for an MPA for the first few times and have instead substituted nervousness for anticipation). Now where hobbying seems to differ from other activities is things like video games or other forms of activities that can lead to dependence is that instead of very frequent dopamine "hits" that person can become dependant on constant sexual gratification.
When it comes to video games, some of the withdrawal symptoms can include irritability, anxiety, boredom, cravings and sadness.
But what intrigues my interest is while a lot of activity-based addictions tend to have similar dopamine and serotonin response levels I was curious to know what the removal of these pleasure responses but in addition to the removal of daily (or multiple times a day) sexual gratification would impact the severity of these withdrawal symptoms or completely alter them from typical activity based dependence withdrawal symptoms.
Personally apart from cravings which on its own cannot constitute a withdrawal, I have not really experienced much else. I used to "think" about the MPAs I visited practically daily because I visit them about 2 times a month. My last visit was on February 22nd and I've only been doing this Hobby for around 11 months so my mind has been able to pretty much substitute these thoughts with others. Last time I thought about my most recent MPA (Vanessa from Perla) was about 2 weeks ago and again today which is why this sparked an interest for me. It appears that while I did initially experience cravings, I did not develop a dependence (yet at least) for hobbying.
I think this will also help others in this forum understand what they can expect if they do end up developing a dependence for hobbying. If someone doesn't have withdrawal symptoms yet but may experience them later please come back to this thread in the future and share your experiences.
