I'm trying to get some ideas for a Mother's Day promo. I'm thinking about creating a nice HTML email and sending it to all of my clients. Maybe a 90 min massage for the price of a 60 min. What are your promos?

I am sending out a postcard with a photo of my office on it. On the back, it says,"Any time day or night, you can purchase and instantly print the gift which will always fit right. If you are a mom yourself, leave this postcard around in plain sight. If you dont want a gift that collects dust, tell 'em a GLRC gift certificate is a must.

hey jillith, i like to focus more on selling gift certificates for occasions like this. if you think about it, running a special for mother's day (ie. special session, roses etc) you can only benefit from it on the day, or that weekend. BUT, if you focus on people purchasing gift cards for the special mom in their life, you're way more likely to generate bigger cash from that holiday. you can only get your hands on so many people the day of, or the weekend of the holiday. but you can sell endless amounts of gift cards for moms to use them whenever they wish! that's what i would focus on if i were you!

I don't do this so much as a mothers day promo, but as a general promo, when a client purchases 3 gift certificates, they get a fourth one free. My stipulations are that the gift certificates must be purchased at the same time, and for the same amount of time (although I have let this one slide) and the free gift certificate is usually for a 30 minute massage, and I always say "treat 3 people and then treat yourself!"

I got a nice promotional postcard from a company in California called Spongelle. http://www.spongelle.com will get you their 'parked' page in progress, but also a phone number. They are beautiful, colorful infused sponges that lather like crazy. Papaya/Sandalwood is my favorite so far. There is a small size (cost $2.50 each) that I am giving away as a gift with purchase for Mother's Day gift certificates. They are lovely, pleasing and very reasonably priced. The small ones last 5+ showers or baths... perfect for taking on your vacation this summer. Take it, love it & use it & toss it!

That sounds easy to make! (I've been known to spend as much making gifts as I would have spent buying them, but I have SO much more fun creating, LOL). What kind of sponges do they use?

I'll check the big Mexican grocery store - they have the coolest stuff, and at the best prices! That's where I got my loofahs to make loofah soaps!

I don't know what kind of sponges they are. They look like regular cellular sponges, but they are very dense & they have an exfoliating effect. I showered with one of the papaya/sandalwood heart shapes today - I still feel so soft; can't stop touching my arms, ha ha.

If you think of how to make them, please share. That would be fun.

Did you ever make the soap filled sponges?

I ask because I have thought of doing the same, but I cant seem to find suitable sponges. I am having more luck finding natural sponges than manmade sponges of different shapes.

I dont know if I could work with natural sponges, being they were once a living creature, they make me feel squeemish for some reason, and I am not a vegetarian! On the flip side though, manmade sponges dont break down, and what are they made of?? Are they a petroleum product??


I recently bought a kit to make "goldfish soap," from http://www.soapcrafters.com , so I have been working with glycerin soap, which I imagine is the type used in the soap filled sponges. The goldfish soaps look really cute.

Yes, I bought real loofah that hadn't been bleached, wrapped it, poured the melted glycerin soap in, and sliced it after it was solid again. The only problem I had was that as the soap is used, the sliced edges of the loofah are a bit too scratchy. I am thinking maybe it should be boiled first, or something, to soften that up?? I have more loofah but haven't experimented with it any more yet.

I am not doing anything for Mother's Day, but as a few of you will recall, I was still selling those GC's from Christmas. Someone just bought another last week.

I know it's a bit off topic and shows my enthusiasm for purchasing new GC's is on the low end back burner, but if you run out of Mother's Day ones, I just want to encourage you to still give whatever GC you have instead of nixing a GC sale. *winks*
