I thought I would give an update after 11 weeks of walking and diet change. I have now lost 23 lbs. and 4" from my waistline. I am back to the waist I had five years ago. I would like to lose another 4" from my waistline to bring me to a 32" waist, which I have not had for 18 years. I never did not count calories until yesterday, and it turns out I eat about 3,000 calories a day (so I am not hungry) but burn about 4,000 calories a day (lots of walking every day). This translates into a weight loss of about 2 lbs. per week, which is in fact is what I have experienced. Changes happen so slowly that I barely notice them. A couple of adjustments have been problematic. For one, because I am consuming body fat now, and this is new, my blood sugar levels seem to be low sometimes and I get dull minded. I have made some errors in judgement in the last few weeks which might be related to this (sorry DD). Another is that as you burn up your body fat stored toxic stuff gets released. I get random rashes, a little acne, and I have had two bouts of athlete's foot. I fart a lot more - this could be because I replaced bread with nuts, raisins and goji berries. On the plus side I have old clothes that now fit me again. Because I am lighter I can now do 24 pullups and 20 dips even though I have not done any weight training for almost a year. My pulse and blood pressure have dropped a little and I have more energy. I seem to be sleeping better. And all those goji berries have led to better night vision. Sexually there was a big improvement after the first month but not much since then. I will not get to where I was when I was 20, but maybe where I was at 35. My weight loss journey has brought home to me the importance of persistence in any long term goal. Anything worth pursuing is not easy.
