Bhubaneswar: Police have busted a sex racket and rescued three Thai nationals from a massage parlour in Kharavela Nagar on Friday.

The police said the massage parlour Heaven Thai Spa, run from the house of an industrialist, was actually a sex racket in disguise. The police said the industrialist claimed that he had given the premises on rent to one Srinivas Nanda. The police have launched a hunt to nab Nanda.

During the raid, the police rescued the three foreigners, who are in their 30s, along with two other women. The police have also detained two employees of the spa and two customers.


"Acting on a tip off we raided the spa and found the women in objectionable positions. They have been sent for medical examination and we will shift them to a short-stay home," said deputy commissioner of police Satyabrata Bhoi.

Investigations have revealed that the three had landed in Calcutta between April and August with valid tourist visas.

"They claimed to be staying in a rented accommodation in Khandagiri. We are verifying their claims," Bhoi said.

The police said the massage parlour was operating on the fourth floor of the building for the past four months.

"We have found a photocopy of a trade certificate issued by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to run the spa. Besides, we have also found a diary containing the names and mobile numbers of more than 200 clients. We will probe further and the house owner will be summoned to ascertain whether he was aware of the illegal trade," said a police official.

The centre has been providing massage and sex services to its clients for prices ranging from Rs 1,800 to Rs 4,000. The entrance to the spa was under CCTV surveillance to keep a watch on the customers. Besides, it had around five well-furnished cubicles with air-conditioning facilities.

"We suspect a pimp from Bengal was supplying foreign nationals to the city and several women from Thailand are also being procured to run sex rackets in the guise of massage centres," said a police officer.

On July 24, the Kharvela Nagar police station had arrested a 22-year-old Uzbekistan national for allegedly assaulting cops in an inebriated condition. The police had later found the girl of being hired by a pimp for running flesh trade. Similarly in March last year, Chandrasekharpur police had rescued a 30-year-old sex worker from Kyrgyzstan from an apartment. The police later found that Somesh Panda, who had brought the foreign national to Bhubaneswar, had close links with notorious pimp Sunil Meher.

The police said that foreign nationals attracted more customers and this entailed greater earning for the pimps.

"The pimps usually charge between Rs 10,000 and 30,000 per night for foreign nationals. Most of the pimps hire them on monthly basis reaping huge profit," said a police officer.
